Sunny Elebua serves as the Senior Vice President, and Chief Strategy & Sustainability Officer at Exelon where he leads the development of the enterprise-wide strategy, shaping Exelon’s role in enabling the transition to a clean and resilient energy future.
PROFESSIONAL HISTORY
Elebua has served in various leadership roles in the Exelon strategy organization since 2013. He was named as Chief Strategy & Sustainability Officer in 2020. In his current role, he is responsible for the development of an integrated strategy, that addresses jurisdictional trends across our operating companies, coupling Exelon’s growth with the needs of our customers, regulators and communities.
Elebua and his team are responsible for the development of Exelon’s sustainability strategy, including the Path To Clean. He leads Exelon’s efforts in evaluating and advancing the technology, policy and regulatory transformations required to achieve a net-zero GHG goal by 2050. In this role, he also oversees technology and innovation functions across Exelon, leading the Technology Exchange and Partnership R&D programs to evaluate and invest in technologies that have the potential to be transformative over a longer time horizon.
He leads the team responsible for the management of Exelon’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventory, and sustainability programs like the Climate Change Investment Initiative launched in 2019 dedicated to investing in innovative startups focused on helping our communities face our most pressing climate change-related challenges in the areas of mitigation, resiliency, and adaptation, while advancing social equality and economic prosperity.
Elebua and his team are also responsible for managing multi-stakeholder platforms through our environmental and corporate stewardship reporting in our annual corporate sustainability report that addresses environmental, social responsibility and governance interests.
He joined Exelon’s Corporate Development team in 2008 and was responsible for evaluating and executing potential M&A transactions, playing a significant role in the acquisition of Exelon’s renewables platform and the merger with Constellation.
Prior to joining Exelon, Elebua was an Investment Banking Associate Wachovia Securities (Wells Fargo) covering the Energy & Power sector. He started his career at Arthur Andersen in the Assurance and Business Advisory Practice
EDUCATION
Elebua holds a Bachelors Degree from the University of Nigeria, and an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania
