Washington D.C.
The GridWise Alliance is pleased to see the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) take a strong
leadership role in addressing the changing needs of the electricity sector. While the study is
impressive given the short time and limited resources allotted, it represents the beginning of
a much deeper and broader dialogue with industry stakeholders to fully understand and
address these complex issues. We encourage the Department to devote additional resources
to properly engage the industry in seriously analyzing these issues and crafting appropriate
solutions. Utilities across the country, in partnership with vendors and others, are
aggressively responding to the issues identified in the study. Innovative new technologies
and systems are being rapidly developed and deployed. The Department’s role in continued
R&D with industry is critical and we encourage Secretary Perry to devote additional funding
to its grid-related programs, including work force retainment and development.
We will continue to review the study with our members and the broad cross-section of
stakeholders we represent and together we stand ready to collaborate with DOE on these
critical issues.
