The need to upgrade and strengthen our Nation’s electric infrastructure has never been more imperative. The electric grid plays a critical role in all aspects of our daily lives, yet this infrastructure has not changed much in nearly 100 years. We face a critical and pressing need to enhance our electric system to meet the changing demands of our advanced digital economy.
The GridWise Alliance applauds the House Energy and Commerce Committee for passing the Cyber Sense Act of 2021 and the Enhancing Grid Security through Public-Private Partnership Act. In particular, GridWise appreciates the leadership of Reps. Bob Latta (R-OH) and Jerry McNerney (D-CA) for introducing these two bills, which will help the electricity sector bolster their efforts to address cybersecurity risks.
“Language within the Cyber Sense Act of 2021 and Enhancing Grid Security through Public-Private Partnerships Act will drive increased security and reliability of the entire electric system.” said Karen Wayland, GridWise Alliance CEO. “The bills are just two bipartisan examples of how partnerships between the federal government, states and industry stakeholders can address physical and cybersecurity risks to our electrical system and modernize our grid.”
The GridWise Alliance looks forward to working with all Members to continue to help advance this important legislation during the next stage of the legislative process.
